Jerry Jarrett is Jeff Jarrett’s proud father. Jeff is a WWE superstar.
Jerry Jarrett, the father of WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett, passed away on Tuesday, WWE said. He was 80.
Until he and his tag-team partner retired and co-founded the Continental Wrestling Association with Jerry “The King” Lawler in 1977, Jarrett was a professional wrestler for the National Wrestling Alliance in the Mid-America zone, where they won many tag-team championships. Eleven years later, in 1998, the United States Wrestling Association was formed as a result of a merger with World Class Championship Wrestling.
Lawler did not unseat Jarrett and become president of the USWA until 1997. However, as the “Monday Night Wars” between WWE and World Championship Wrestling wore on, the company eventually collapsed.
Following his meteoric rise in WWE, Jeff Jarrett defected to WCW, where he would go on to become a prominent figure in the company’s twilight years. Upon WWE’s acquisition of WCW, the Jarrett brothers founded NWA-TNA (later Total Nonstop Wrestling, now Impact Wrestling).
In 2005, Jarrett quit and sold his shares to Panda Energy after he and the company’s leadership had a falling out over the company’s strategic direction. A.J. Styles, Xavier Woods, and Bobby Roode are just a few names that might have their start in WWE. Notable members of the All Elite Wrestling roster, including Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, and the Young Bucks, were there.
When the news broke, the wrestling community came out in force to express their condolences and best wishes to the Jarrett family.
