After missing Wall Street’s predictions for the number of vehicles it will create in 2022, Tesla has decided to rethink its approach due to a combination of falling demand and intractable supply chain problems. The firm has reduced prices on some of its best-selling items in front of 2022.
The Model Y Long Range, which was formerly sold in the US for $65,990, now retails for $52,990, a discount of 20%. This SUV now qualifies for a $7,500 US Federal Tax Credit, which reduces its price by more than $20,000, or 30%.
Since the Model 3 is Tesla’s best-selling vehicle, we welcome the price reduction with particular enthusiasm. There has been a price cut from $46,990 to $43,990 for the Model 3 with rear-wheel drive, as reported by Engadget.
The Model Y Performance saw the largest price drop, going from £79,990 in the UK to £59,990. There was an £8,000 increase from yesterday’s asking price. According to AutoCar, the starting price of a Model Y has dropped by £7,000, bringing the total cost of a Tesla SUV to £44,990.
According to a Reuters report out of Europe, “buyers purchasing the Model 3 for 44,990 euros ($48,773) would now enjoy a further price reduction through a government subsidy of 5,000 euros.” Additionally, “prices for the Model 3 and Model Y were dropped by roughly 1% to almost 17% in Germany, depending on configuration.” Unfortunately for those who have recently ordered a Tesla but have yet to receive their vehicle, the firm has acknowledged that the surcharge will be added automatically to those still waiting for delivery. Even though this is great news for those looking to purchase a used automobile, it does little to help those who have just taken receipt of a brand new car and watched its value plummet.
